Newly finished 300L whiskey distiller still pot distillation equipment

Recently, we newly finished a 300L whisky distiller in Tiantai Factory. Mainly used to brew single malt whiskey. Here we are happy to introduce it to you. Hope it could bring you some ideas on your distillery project.:)

Why have 2 different sized stills?

Whiskey making usually requires two stills, usually because the whiskey making process requires two distillations. Usually the small stills is 0.6 times larger than the large pot.

The whiskey making process generally includes the following steps:

First distillation (crude distillation):

The crude distillation is carried out in the first still pot (usually a larger pot called a wash still). The purpose of this process is to distill the fermented raw material liquid (wash) and separate the alcohol-containing liquid (low wine or low wines). This liquid will have a higher alcohol concentration, but will still not be pure enough.

Intermediate processing:

The low wine from the first distillation is transferred to the second still (spirit still). Here a second distillation takes place, further refining and distilling the liquid to obtain a purer and more refined alcohol.

Second distillation (fine distillation):

The low wine is distilled again by fine distillation in a second still. This process helps remove impurities and unwanted aromas, making the final alcohol purer and of higher quality.

Advantages of using 2 stills of different sizes

Operational efficiency

Smaller stills are generally more efficient because they can heat and cool faster under the same operating conditions. This increases productivity and saves energy costs.

Alcohol quality and taste

By using two stills of different sizes, the distiller can control the speed and temperature of alcohol distillation at different stages. Smaller pots are often used for distillation, which helps remove undesirable substances and adjust the taste and aroma of the alcohol.

Separate different parts

The larger pot is used for crude distillation and the smaller pot is used for fine distillation. During rough distillation, the liquid containing high concentration of alcohol is mainly separated; during fine distillation, the liquid is further refined and rectified to obtain purer and more refined alcohol.

aroma and flavor

Smaller pots help retain more aroma and flavor components, making the final alcohol more complex and rich.
