Some Factors Should Be Noted In Sparging
Sparging appears at the end of lautering process, in which additional water was sprinkled on the grains to extract additional sugars.
There are a few factors need to be pay attention to during the sparging:
A.It should be done at the right moment.
When the spent grain first came up, the sparging should begin.
If it begins earlier, more sugar will leave in the spent grain;
If it begins later, lautering time will be prolonged and increase the risk of wort oxidation.
B.The temperature of sparging water should be 75-78°C.
Temperature too high will muddy the wort. Or the sugar couldn’t be extracted completely.
C.The PH of sparging water should be around 5.8-6.0.
It could reduce the dissolution of harmful components in the husk.
D.The sparging process should be moderate.
Or more undesirable flavor will be extracted and the concentration of wort will be reduced.
For Sparging, Grainbrew lauter tun will be all equipped with sparging ring.
There are many small holes on the sparging ring, they could ensure the sparging process even.
Some customers also require water blending station to make the temperature of sparging water accurate.
